Tarinassa Muumipeikko haluaa tehdä vaikutuksen Niiskuneitiin ja päättää osallistua mäkihyppykilpailuun. Kun Niiskuneiti ymmärtää lajin vaarallisuuden, hän yrittää estää Muumipeikkoa – mutta liian myöhään. Mukin ja kulhon kuvituksessa Muumipeikko on jo ilmassa, ja Niiskuneiti, Mymmeli ja pikku Samu seuraavat liitoa henkeään pidätellen. Muu yleisöjoukko rientää katsomaan uskaliasta hyppyä. Vaikka hyppy päätyykin kuusten latvoihin, se on näyttävä suoritus!
